Synopsis
Conceived by Khalid and director Emil Nava, Free Spirit follows a group of high schoolers on a spontaneous road trip as they confront their anxieties about the future — a direct creative parallel to Khalid's sophomore album, with roughly half the script improvised by its young cast. The film premiered as a one-night theatrical event on April 3, 2019, two days ahead of the album's release, distributed by Trafalgar Releasing.
